Harry Potter Deluxe Edition Books

Having mentioned them in the previous post, let’s look at Bloomsbury’s special deluxe edition cloth hardbacks of J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter saga.

Once the success of the series had been established, Bloomsbury, aware of collectors’ interest in the elusive first editions, produced this deluxe version of the young wizard’s adventures. Starting in 1999, they released The Philosophers Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, The Goblet of Fire and The Prisoner of Azkaban and then released further deluxe editions to accompany the subsequent books.

Bound with bright cloth, gilt edges and with the original dust-jacket image tastefully tipped in on the cover, these special editions achieve something rare: they are elegant and exclusive enough for collectors whilst remaining, unarguably, children’s books.

The print runs were short but numerous, with approximately 10 printings of some volumes. Being the preserve of Harry Potter aficionados, signed copies of these books are not especially common at present, most are no doubt tucked away with Gryffindor scarves and other Potter paraphernalia; So they can be expensive. Copies of unsigned later printings still in their shrink-wrap can be found at very reasonable prices however.

Harry Potter Deluxe edition books available at AbeBooks from £20 – £22,500…
